BigB Receives Dadasaheb Phalke Award from President at Rashtrapati Bhava

The 66th National Film Awards, the most prominent film award ceremony, took place a week ago at Vigyan Bhawan in Delhi. Well, the ceremony may have been held recently, but the awards were announced way back in August 2019 only.

As many from the Bollywood film fraternity attended the event,  Amitabh Bacchan couldn't be there because of his poor health. So, he received the award from President Ram Nath Kovind at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

The actor, while receiving the Dadasaheb Phalke Award from President, was accompanied by wife Jaya Bachchan and son Abhishek Bachchan at the ceremony.

After receiving the award, Amitabh Bachchan said,

“When this award was announced, a doubt arose in my mind: if this is an indication for me to sit at home and relax after working for so many years? There is some more work I have to finish and certain possibilities are coming up where I may get a chance to do some work."

Amitabh Bachchan thanked Minister of Information and Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar as well as the President and said,

“It is by the grace of God, the blessings of my parents, support of colleagues from the industry and the love of the people of India that I am able to stand in front of you. It's been 50 years since the establishment of Dadasaheb Phalke Award and it is the time for which I have been working in the industry. I am grateful for this opportunity and accept this award with gratitude.”

Then while resting his words, he said,

“When the award was announced, I thought if this is a hint to tell me that my time is over and I need to rest at home now. There's still some work I have to finish and I will be grateful of you all if I get more opportunities in the future.”

Twitter handle of Doordarshan National posted pictures from the event and wrote,

“Hon'ble @rashtrapatibhvn #RamNathKovind to present 50th #DadaSahebPhalkeAward to legendary actor #AmitabhBachchan @SrBachchan on @DDNational & Live-Stream on https://youtube.com/watch?v=9agNfo9aOdQ”

Prakash Javadekar, the Union Minister earlier in September, announced that Mr. Bachchan would be awarded the prestigious award this year. He took to his Twitter handle and wrote,

"The legend Amitabh Bachchan who entertained and inspired for 2 generations has been selected unanimously for #DadaSahabPhalke award. The entire country and international community is happy. My heartiest Congratulations to him.

Amitabh Bachchan, through his illustrious career, has won four National Film Awards for Best Actor. His last award was for his performance in the film Piku in 2015.

Son Abhishek Bachchan is all praises for his father. The 43-year-old took to Instagram, posted a picture of Big B and wrote,

“My inspiration. My hero. Congratulations Pa on the Dadasahab Phalke award. We are all so, so proud of you. Love you.”

On the professional front, Amitabh Bacchan was last seen on the TV quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati 11 as he hosted it. The movie Badla, also starring Taapsee Pannu, remains his last release. And, the actor has films like Gulabo Sitabo, Jhund, and Chehre, in the pipeline.

A Big Congratulations to Big B!
